Becca Carlson, a 2013 graduate of Rockford High School, is a scientist and entrepreneur working to solve complex challenges in medicine and human health. After earning a degree in chemical engineering from Michigan State University, Becca completed a Ph.D. in Medical Engineering and Medical Physics through the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program. Her research has explored how human cells respond to viruses and other threats, helping scientists better understand disease and the immune system. A 2017 Hertz Fellow, Becca is now co-founder and co-CEO of the nonprofit The Deliverome Project, an ambitious effort to help scientists develop medicines that can reach the right cells in the body. Her curiosity, ingenuity, and drive to improve lives have placed her at the forefront of scientific innovation.

A 2007 Rockford High School graduate, Jeremy was an all-conference defensive back and part of three consecutive Division 1 state finals appearances, including championships in 2004 and 2005 and a runner-up finish in 2006. At Wayne State University, the four-year letterwinner became the first defensive player in program history to earn First Team All-America honors and was named an All-American in two consecutive seasons. He finished his career as Wayne State’s all-time leader in tackles by a defensive back and career interception return yards, with 17 interceptions and three returned for touchdowns. Jeremy and his teammates advanced to the 2011 Division II national championship game, and he later signed with the Chicago Bears. A humble, team-first player, Jeremy credits his teammates and coaches with making his success possible. His talent, toughness, and determination carried him from Rockford to football’s national stage, creating a legacy that continues to inspire future Rams.

Maddy Watters, a 2017 graduate of Rockford High School, made her mark as an outstanding basketball player and one of the region’s top student-athletes. A four-year varsity letterwinner and senior team captain, Maddy earned multiple All-State honors and was named the 2017 Grand Rapids Press Dream Team Player of the Year. She continued her career at Central Michigan University, where she became one of the most accomplished three-point shooters in program history. Maddy finished her CMU career seventh in three-pointers made and second in three-point shooting percentage. As a senior, she ranked 14th nationally from beyond the arc and advanced to the semifinals of the State Farm College Three-Point Championship. An Academic All-MAC honoree known for her teamwork and positive attitude, Maddy represented Rockford with skill, determination, and class.

Ron and Nancy Hager have spent decades quietly making life better for others. While raising their two boys in Rockford, Nancy became deeply involved at Belmont Elementary, serving as PTO President and as an original member of the district’s Interschool Advisory Council. In 1991, she helped establish the Rockford Education Foundation as a founding trustee. Together, Ron and Nancy led by example through their generosity, volunteerism, and enduring commitment to education. They have supported REF, North Kent Connect, the Grand Rapids Public Museum, the Wolverine Worldwide YMCA, and programs for cancer survivors. Whether they are supporting students, serving neighbors, or strengthening local nonprofits, Ron and Nancy are a true team who lead with compassion, humility, and a genuine belief in the power of community.

James Alles, a 1967 graduate of Rockford High School, has built a remarkable legacy of service to his country and community. A United States Coast Guard veteran, James returned home and began decades of civic leadership in Cannon Township, serving as trustee, supervisor, and now township clerk. His commitment to young people is equally impressive. As Scoutmaster of Troop 228, James helped guide more than 16 Scouts to the rank of Eagle Scout and continued supporting Scouting for nearly two decades through its district advancement committee. Inspired by his father’s example of community leadership, James has also volunteered through his church for 40 years. His decades of leadership reflect a lifelong willingness to step forward and help, making James a true lifelong Ram.

Jeremy Amshey, a 1998 graduate of Rockford High School, has built an impressive career through hard work, hands-on experience, and a commitment to developing others. After beginning in the skilled trades as a finish carpenter, Jeremy earned degrees in architectural graphics and construction management and joined Owen-Ames-Kimball in 2008. He rose through the company to become its Chief Operating Officer. Jeremy has remained closely connected to education, previously serving as a trustee of the Rockford Education Foundation and currently serving on the Ferris Foundation Board of Directors. He has also mentored students interested in design and construction. Whether he is leading professionals or encouraging young people to explore new possibilities, Jeremy brings a spirit of teamwork and service.
